Terbinafine is a dihydrofolic acid derivative, structurally like, and it is an inhibitor of the fungal metabolism. It inhibits the cytochrome P-450 enzyme, resulting in the formation of a product which is toxic to the fungal cells. The toxic level of the product is higher in patients taking antifungal drugs than those on other antifungal drugs.
Lamisil is indicated for the treatment of systemic infections of the skin, bone, joints and kidneys, including cryptococcal meningitis and chronic prostatitis.
Terbinafine is indicated for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis and oropharyngeal Candida infection.
The usual recommended dose of Lamisil is one 250mg tablet taken once daily at approximately the same time of the day. Your doctor may adjust the dosage based on your response and any other medications you may be taking. It is important to follow the recommended dosing schedule and not to exceed the maximum dose of 250mg per day.
